There are many who refer to the "Olivia Pope" wine glass. Scandal's main character, Olivia Pope is known for her indulgence in a glass of wine in every episode. Lately, Olivia has been missing out on her glass of wine due to her being held captive, lol! I am sure when she returns (because I have no doubt she will), Olivia will catch up with Jake over a glass of red.
This beautifully handcrafted glass that Olivia and so many of us love is actually called the Camille 32 oz red wine glass from Crate & Barrel. Yes, you read that right....the CAMILLE glass. Interesting, huh? Please start referring to it by the proper name. Thank you! LOL.
For those interested in the difference in wine glasses, here you go:
Olivia Pope's glass has a nicely rounded, wide bowl which allows for the wine to really open up and breathe, revealing the wine's true characteristics. Typically, there are 4 different types of standard wine glasses and then variations that fall under each category:
1) Sparkling Wine Glass - Also referred to as a champagne flute has a much more narrow shape to retain the carbonation and flavor of effervescent (meaning sparkling, bubbly, fizzy) wines.
2) White Wine Glass - The white wine glass has more of a U shape than the red wine glass which has more of a bowl shape at the bottom.
3) Red Wine Glass - Red wine glasses have a large bowl and a fuller, wider opening. The Bordeaux glass is designed for full bodied, heavier wines such as Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots while the Burgundy glass is designed for lighter reds such as Pinot Noir. The Bordeaux glass is taller than most, which allows the wine to be directed to the back of the mouth to maximize flavor. The Burgundy glass is shorter and has a larger bowl to direct wine to the tip of your tongue so that you can tast the more delicate flavors.
4) Dessert Glass - Dessert glasses are typically the smallest of all the glasses. Dessert wines are often served in smaller quantities due to the overwhelming sweetness and the smaller glass helps direct the wine to the back of the mouth so that the sweetness does not overwhelm.
